Painting Peonies on Vellum

in person at the New York Botanical Garden

Bronx, New York 10458

Peonies are one of the glories of the spring garden-their layered texture, shape, scent, and color variations make them such stunning subjects to observe and enjoy. This is a three-day opportunity to work from live specimens first out in the garden’s fabulous peony collection, then back in the classroom. We’ll design compositions before transferring to vellum, and practice drybrush techniques to gradually build color and texture in the beautiful petals and leaves. By applying many layers of drybrush watercolor, you'll build fresh, rich color and create believable form and well-observed detail.
